“We are honored that CAN is taking up this mission to inform the American church about the atrocities happening every day to our brothers and sisters in Christ,” said the President of ICU, Joseph Hakim.
The ICU and CAN began discussing cooperation shortly after Martin Mawyer wrote an op-ed about attacks on innocent Christians, specifically in Iraq and Egypt. The article can be read by CLICKING HERE.
CAN then became part of a delegation to the U.N. that issued a joint condemnation of the burning of a church in Egypt that resulted in four deaths, hundreds of injuries and unjustified imprisonments. The organization also joined a protest outside of the U.N. that included over 3,000 demonstrators trying to bring attention to the attacks on Coptic Christians in Egypt. A letter was also delivered to the Egyptian ambassador to the U.N. demanding that action be taken against the violations of freedom of religion in his country.
“The American church needs to have its eyes opened to this and marching orders need to be given so they can take action,” said Jason Campbell, CAN’s Program Manager.
